Melbourne Forest Engagement

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Chris & Stacey’s intimate & joyful forest engagement in the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne before Covid-19 restrictions hit. Its my hope that these images can give couples some hope that even though times are uncertain, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I want to show once restrictions are lifted you will still be able to have your moments captured in such an intimate way.

Chris & Stacey’s love story.

Stacey: Chris and I both went to the same high school, but in different year levels. We didn’t really know each other then at all.
In 2014, about 6 years after high school Chris added me on Facebook. Chris said it was because he thought I was attractive. He then slid into my Facebook messages and made me laugh within a couple sentences. We started talking, and got along well, but I friend zoned him for a pretty long time.

Chris was persistent though, he always said ‘I’ll get you one day, and I’ll say ‘I told you so’. Chris & I spoke almost every day for a couple years. Then something happened, he started going on tinder dates. I quickly realised I was jealous. Soon after, the friend zone was well and truly broken. Chris & I started seeing each other.

It was clear to both of us that we’d found what everyone looks for. The relationship where everything just clicks, and you can’t imagine your world without the other person in it.

So we did all the things people in love do. We went on a holiday, came back and saved. Together Chris & I bought a house, renovated it, moved in and got a puppy. But of course, I was waiting for something else.
I had been (not so) subtly hinting at our future and how I wanted a ring to be in it soon. Little did I know, he had already planned something and the ring was in the house!

We went away for a weekend. This was pretty normal for us anyway so I didn’t know this would be anything different. I’d just had my wisdom teeth out two weeks prior. I didn’t realise why he was so invested in my swollen face going down by the weekend.

The Engagement at Lindenderry Winery

As we walked around Lindenderry winery, it was a beautiful day. I’m always hanging to get photos no matter where we go. Chris set up the camera to be recording us for a photo near a lake. It was gorgeous filled with trees and wine barrels. We were just posing and having fun for what I thought was a photo. Chris then he got down on one knee, popped out a ring and asked me to marry him. I was so shocked I backed straight into the wine barrel. ‘Holy shitballs…YES’ was the next thing to come out of my my mouth, it’s all caught on film too!

Forest engagement photos in Melbourne

After coming down from cloud 9, we started getting so excited about planning the engagement party and Wedding. The engagement party was incredible! We had our Melbourne forest engagement photoshoot with Adrian from La Moment Photography. Chris & I were so happy with the shots we ended up getting a few enlarged and hung up in our house.

The Wedding

For the Wedding we booked potters reception in Warrandyte. We found all of our suppliers, I bought my wedding dress, and we were on track to get married September 19th, 2020.
Yup. 2020. The year where all weddings went to hell in a handbasket. Now the most magical day of our lives turned into an anxiety filled nightmare. We listened to all the announcements, and had to make a choice to post pone the wedding.

Postponing due to Covid-19

Chris & I went through the grieving process, and on our would have been wedding day we made sure we spent it together. We talked, laughed, joked, ordered a fancy dinner to be delivered (thanks lockdown), and we won’t lie, started drinking cocktails at noon. Our amazing  friends and family spoiled us with care packages delivered to our door step. Now we are counting down to September 4th 2021.

As devastating as needing to post pone a wedding is, we are grateful to have each other, and we both deserve to be able to celebrate our love story the way we planned.
We know our turn will come, I’ll get to walk down the aisle, and in front of all our family and friends, he will get to tell me ‘I told you so’.
